“I just wanted to email you and thank you for talking with our team the other day. I really enjoyed it and it made me look at all aspects of life a little differently. I mostly saw how sports correlate to everyday life in general which will really be helpful to me since I'm starting to go into the interviewing stage to get internships. I have been keeping a SUccess journal and I plan to keep one going. The most influential thing that I got out of your talk is the idea of what you focus on expands. Just in practice and in classes I have been focusing on little positive things and I just feel better about myself in general. The 48 hours without complaining was also a way to almost laugh off complaints and keep things upbeat instead of dreary (especially at 7am workouts). But I know you said you liked feedback and I hope you come back to talk to us again! Thanks again!"... - Mandy Willison Syracuse University Women’s Lax ‘13

“I really enjoyed the talk yesterday. I liked how he went about sharing his view on everything. He makes it all seem so simple which I like because most people do a really good job turning the simplest things into the most difficult things. It was nice to have a speaker to remind us how easy it all can be. He also did it in an entertaining way to keep our attention and make it not feel like 3 hours. In terms of putting what he said into action I think it will be most successful if everyone does their part. Each player will need to take it upon themselves to try it out and see the outcome. I really liked the idea about not being a victim, because I feel like sometimes I blame others for the bad things that happen. So I am really going to try to not complain or blame others or other things. I have been really trying to take responsibility this year so I am going to continue with that.“... - Goucher Women’s Lax Player

At the class that I took with Dr. Andrew Joyce I went in thinking that I was going to hear the basic things that all coaches tell you. I thought that it was just about motivating people as a leader, but I was greatly mistaken. The class taught me not only how to be a leader and how to come together as a team, but also how to improve my mental game in lacrosse. Some of the people that took the class with me I never met in my life, and after the class was over I felt like I could refer to them as a friend. As far as being a leader goes, people are already seeing me as a leader on my high school team and I am only a sophomore. And as a result of the course, I now feel less stressed on the field. I am now able to put myself out there and have a bigger "comfort zone". I recommend this class to anyone or any team who is willing to take that extra step in improving their game, habits, and mindset. It's never too late to start to instill these aspects learned in Dr. Andrew's classes. "Your past does not equal your future." I'm sure after you take the class and see what it's all about you'll catch yourself quoting Andrew, just like I do... - Trevor Baptiste Building Blocks Lacrosse

“I really enjoyed the session yesterday. I think that reinforcing the positive energy with good or bad plays can help us become a better unit. I also think that acknowledgement is truly important with becoming a team. And should implement the envelopes on lockers or just have a team meeting after every practice and say what we excelled in practice and places where are energy can be improved. I believe as a team we can use Andrew Joyces methods and see how we evolve as a team!“... - Goucher Women’s Lax Player

“I credit Coach Joyce as being one of the most influential coaches in my 18 years of athletics. I also credit him with helping to give me the self-confidence to excel as an athlete and a person and to move from being the last cut on the varsity squad to one of the first to be selected for Division-I collegiate lacrosse. To me a good coach would make for a great mentor. Coach Joyce is the reason I came up with this philosophy.“... - TJ Whiting Calvert Hall ‘05, Mount St. Mary’s ‘09
